TY - JOUR TI - Teachers’ Opinions on Primary and Secondary School Students’ Reading Comprehension Levels AB - The aim of this research is detect teachers’ opinions on primary-secondary school students’ reading comprehension levels. This study was employed with interview method, which is one of qualitative research methods. Working group consist of 22 teachers, who work in a primary school in Kocaeli at second term of 2016-2017 academic year. The conclusion of the study is as below: 1. Almost all of the teachers have the opinion that students’ reading comprehension levels are insufficient. 2. All of the teachers express that students have difficulty in comprehending and answering questions from long texts according to their observations as an indicator of reading comprehension levels. 3. Most of the teachers express that students’ insufficient reading habit and families’ lack of interest are the reasons of students’ insufficient reading comprehension levels. 4. It is detected that almost all of the teachers do activities to improve students reading comprehension levels and the most popular activity of them is reading time in their own lessons. 5. Most of the teachers suggest that discussion method should be used in teaching-learning process, attractive and enjoyable reading activities suitable for all lessons should be done to improve students’ reading comprehension levels and encourage students to read.
