The Importance of School Screening and Efficacy of Exercise Therapy in Children with Scoliosis: A Literature Review

Öz:
In general, scoliosis, defined as the “lateral curvature of the vertebral column in the frontal plane”, is the spinal deformity that leads to functional and visual disturbances in the body. Classification is based on size, location, direction and type of curvature and if it is not treated, it causes serious health problems. early diagnosis is crucial for the prevention of other deformities that will develop over time. The risk group consists of children aged 9-15 years, so school scans are important for early diagnosis. The study included the following subheadings in the literature, 1. The importance of school screening for early diagnosis in scoliosis, 2. The relationship between scoliosis and anthropometric measurements, 3. The efficacy of exercise in scoliosis treatment. The common opinion in the studies examined is that large populations can be reached through school screening, scoliosis can be detected early, and necessary precautions can be taken on time. It has been proven that specific and purposefulness exercises- in comparison with general exercises- are effective in the treatment of scoliosis and prevent surgical intervention. School screening for scoliosis must become a state practice in primary and secondary schools and social awareness should be created through coordinated work of family, teachers and health care institutions. It is recommended to establish special rehabilitation centers for scoliosis that is diagnosed early age.
