TI  - The Relationship of Between the COVID-19 Pandemic and Professional Belonging Levels of Student Midwives
AB  - BACKGROUND/AIMS: The relationship between the professional belonging levels of midwifery students and the effects of coronavirus disease 2019 on the social order and health system was evaluated. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This planned cross-sectional and descriptive work was carried out as web-based study. The study was completed with 210 senior midwifery students at the undergraduate level who had volunteered to participate in this study. RESULTS: Age, home, and family type are significant predictors of professional sense of belonging (p<0.05). The fact that being called to duty in cases of shortages of healthcare staff and a punishment system for a refusal to give care in terms of health policies are significant predictors of the level of professional belonging. Not finding it appropriate to invite students for duty in cases of a shortage of healthcare workers is associated with a higher level of professional belonging (p<0.05). The excess of relationship factors between the factors relating to education and the sense of belonging to other groups is striking. Feelings of inadequacy of being able to graduate, adequate professionalism, concerns about starting the profession, and satisfaction with this profession are significant predictors for the sense of professional belonging. CONCLUSION: The levels of professional belonging of the student midwives are quite high. Health care policies in the pandemic process can affect this sense of belonging. Especially the changes, setbacks and adaptation processes experienced in education are important in terms of professional belonging. More findings are needed on how we can reinforce this awareness and emotion in the digital environment.
