A MAPPING STUDY ON NEW CONCEPTS IN SOCIAL MEDIA LITERACY

Öz:
Social media literacy, which can be defined as knowing the technical features of social networks, and having technical and cognitive abilities such as creating, analyzing, and evaluating the content in these networks, draws attention to awareness of social media content under the main title of media literacy.Today, the importance of being social media literate should be emphasized in order to read the social media content that we encounter in almost all practices of daily life correctly and to produce content in this environment. Awareness of this subject will also provide information on many new concepts such as identity theft, romance scams, whistle-blower, cyber harassment, cyber bullying, and many other new concepts that have started to take place in the literature, depending on the shares and activity in social media networks. This study aimed to evaluate social media literacy in the context of these new concepts. In this framework, first of all, the concept of social media literacy was explained, and the concepts that started to be discussed with the existence of social media were determined by scanning the national and international literature. These identified concepts are explained with the mind mapping method to reveal their relations with each other, their categories, and definitions in social life more clearly. As a result of the mapping study, the concepts that entered our lives after social media or adapted to social media were classified under three main headings as "information dissemination, crimes, and psychological diseases".
