OXIDATIVE DNA DAMAGE OF THREE COMMERCIAL MOUTHRINSES IN THE PERIPHERAL BLOODS AND ORAL MUCOSAL CELLS OF THE RATS

Öz:
Background and Aims: The study aimed to investigate the oxidative DNA damage of three commercial mouthrinses Kloroben®, Listerine®, and Majezik® on oral mucosal tissues and peripheral blood of the rats. Materials and Method: Forty male Wistar rats were distributed into four groups: the control group orally treated with 0.5 mL of 0.9% NaCl, and three experimental groups orally treated with 0.5 mL of 1) 0.12% chlorhexidine digluconate and 0.15% Benzydamine HCl (Kloroben® group), 2) 4 essential oil containing (Listerine® group), and 3) 0.5g flurbiprofen (Majezik® group) twice daily, during14 days. At the end of the experimental period, rats were sacrificed, and then 5-(hydroxymethyl) uracil (5HMU) and 2-deoxyuridine (2dU) and 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8OHdG) in the oral mucosal tissues and peripheral blood were measured by Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC). Results: There were no significant differences in 5HMU, 2dU, and 8OHdG levels in rat oral mucosal tissue and peripheral blood between Kloroben®, Listerine®, Majezik®, and control groups for 14 days (P>.05). Conclusions: The present study could not observe the presence of oxidative DNA damage on oral mucosal tissues and peripheral
