The first thing a researcher must do before carrying out his/her study is to conduct a literature review related to the field or the subject he/she wants to research. Studies conducted in the literature provide the researcher to create a general framework by guiding the study. For this reason, the study is important in terms of guiding researchers who will write postgraduate theses or articles in the field of music. This study aims to investigate the postgraduate theses on piano education written between the years of 2000-2020 in terms of various variables and to determine the direction of the trend of the theses. Studies have been classified in line with the year the theses were published, the university where they were conducted, the graduate degree, the research subject, sample / study group, research methods and analysis and their frequencies were determined. The study group determined by using a purposeful sampling method consisted of 159 theses that were allowed to access by scanning with the keyword ‘piano education’ in the National Thesis Search database. In the research, the "Article Classification Form" developed by Sözbilir, Kutu and Yaşar (2012) was used as a data collection tool after being revised specifically for the field. These were analysed using the content analysis method and data analysis was carried out by frequency and percentage method. In the findings section, the data obtained through a content analysis were presented and interpreted in the form of tables under different variables. In the study, considering the years of publication of theses on piano education between 2000 and 2020, it was seen that most publications were made in 2019. It was also determined that the situations of the theses published in other years didn’t exhibit a homogeneous distribution and that the theses show an acceleration in a positive or negative direction according to the years. When the universities where the theses were carried out were evaluated, it was seen that Gazi University came to the fore with 44 theses. The fact that Gazi University Music Education Department is one of the first institutions opened in our country can be shown as a reason for this situation. In addition, it was determined that some theses about piano education were written in different departments of some universities. One of these is a doctoral thesis conducted at Yeditepe University, Department of Anthropology. Another study was carried out in Anadolu University, Department of Curriculum and Instruction. The other study was carried out in Ankara University, Department of Cultural Foundations of Education. Also, a master's thesis on piano education was written in the Educational Sciences Department of Balıkesir University. This situation can be accepted as an indicator that piano education can be evaluated from a broad perspective and can be used in different fields. When the graduate degrees of the theses were evaluated, it was determined that the master's thesis (n = 111) was the most prepared one. It was also seen that there are few studies of proficiency in arts (n = 4). When the topics of the theses were evaluated, it was seen that subjects on pedagogical and contemporary approaches in piano teaching came to the fore. This situation can be explained with the pedagogical aspect of piano education being the most preferred research subject thanks to its appeal to large masses and its predisposition to interdisciplinary studies.
