BICYCLE TOURISM IN EVERY ASPECT AND CYCLING FRIENDLY ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES

Öz:
A growing body of evidence indicates that the bicycle is now resurgent worldwide, with its use for entertainment, recreation and tourism. The economic, social and environmental values of bicycle tourism have led destination planners and policy makers to finance, plan and develop bicycle-related infrastructure and encourage the development of a range of services to meet the needs of bicycle tourists. In order to develop bicycle tourism in Turkey, a bicycle-friendly accommodation facility has been implemented recently. The aim of this study is to reveal the possible advantages of the bicycle friendly accommodation facility application and the issues that need to be developed for the application. The data were collected from a bicycle-friendly accommodation facility in Konya by interview and observation technique. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings show that the application of bicycle-friendly accommodation facilities provides many advantages to the facilities and that the application should be reconsidered and placed on a realistic basis. This study can be considered as the first study examining bicycle-friendly accommodation facilities in the literature. In this respect, it makes significant contributions to the tourism literature.
