Oral Findings Observed in COVID-19: Literature Review

Öz:
COVID-19 is a contagious infectious disease caused by seve- re acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). COVID-19, declared as a pandemic disease by the World He- alth Organization, has become a major public health problem all over the world in a short time. Virus is mainly transmitted by droplets and contact. In this review article, oral findings that can be seen in COVID-19 disease were evaluated with current studies. Taste alteration, aphthous-like lesions, oral ulcers, herpetiform ulcers, angular cheilitis, necrotizing gingivitis, and erythema multiforme-like lesions have been reported in limited case reports. The relationship between COVID-19 and its oral manifestations can be associated with the direct or in- direct effect of SARS-CoV-2 on oral mucosal cells, opportu- nistic infections, immunosupression, and side effects of drugs used for treatment. Oral findings are critical for the early diag- nosis of COVID-19.Diagnosis of the oral signs and symptoms associated with COVID-19 by dentists is important in order to prevent the spread of the disease as well as early diagnosis.
