EVALUATION OF THE INCIDENCE OF IMPLANT-SUPPORTED PROTHESES IN THE TREATMENT OF DENTAL DEFICIENCIES BY AGE AND SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS

Öz:
Background and Aim: Of the different methods used in the treatment of tooth deficiencies, implant-supported fixed prostheses are the most advantageous and are known to be the gold standard. However, many socioeconomic and demographic factors affect the acceptability of this treatment method in society. The aim of this study is to determine the factors affecting the use of dental implants in the treatment of tooth deficiency and to evaluate the preference for dental implants in the treatment of tooth deficiencies that patients will experience in the future. Materials and Methods: The survey was conducted using questionnaires that were completed by 210 randomly selected volunteers between the ages of 20 and 65 who had enrolled in the Faculty of Dentistry, Hacettepe University, Department of Oral Radiology. Data were collected using a questionnaire personally completed by patients participating in the study. In addition, radiological examinations on ortho-panoramic films were performed on the patients who participated in the study. Results: The percentage use of dental implants in the treatment of missing teeth remains at 33%. Among many demographic, socioeconomic, and clinical factors, only one significant association was found—between regular drug use and dental implant treatment (p < 0.05). There was no significant association of dental implant treatment with age, gender, education, systemic disease, social insurance, income level, or smoking (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Contrary to popular belief, these results showed that clinical factors, but not social and economic factors, are determinants of dental implant treatment.
