Öz:

Bu çalışmanın temel amacı ilköğretim ikinci kademede okuyan öğrencilerin matematik dersine karşı tutumları, matematik başarı düzeyleri ve cinsiyetleri arasındaki ilişkileri tespit etmektir. Nicel araştırma paradigması içerisinde yer alan ilişkisel tarama modeli kullanılarak çalışmanın deseni oluşturulmuştur. Araştırmanın örneklemi Eğirdir ilçesinde bulunan bir ilköğretim okulunun 6, 7 ve 8. sınıflarında okuyan 37’si kız 47’si erkek toplam 84 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Verilerin toplanmasında demografik bilgileri sorgulayan ve matematik tutum ölçeği içeren bir anket kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin matematik başarıları bir önceki akademik yılın karne notları ile belirlenmiştir. Verilerin çözümlenmesinde betimsel istatistiklerin yanında t-testi, korelasyon ve regresyon analizi gibi çıkarımsal testler kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre öğrencilerin cinsiyet farklılıkları olmaksızın olumlu tutuma ve orta düzeyde başarıya sahip oldukları görülmüştür. Ayrıca, tutumun başarı üzerindeki yordama gücünün %16 olduğu ve bu yordamanın kız ve erkek öğrenciler için aynı olduğu bulunmuştur. Regresyon modeline göre, tutum puanlarındaki bir birimlik artışın matematik notunda (5’lik not sitemi) .07 puanlık artışı öngördüğü tespit edilmiştir.

Öz:

The primary purpose of this research is to investigate the relationships between elementary school students’ attitudes toward mathematics, achievement levels and gender. Data were collected from 84 subjects through a questionnaire. The quantitative data were analyzed by using independent sample t-test, Pearson correlation and regression analysis in addition to descriptive statistics. The results revealed that students had positive attitudes toward mathematics and moderate achievement level in mathematics. Also gender had no effect on both attitude and achievement. Attitude predicted 16% of the achievement and the magnitude of this prediction was the same for both male and female students. One unit increase in the attitude scores was associated with .07 unit increase in the math grades on a five-point scale.
