Conventional and adhesive dental luting agents; A literature review

Öz:
Fixed prosthodontic approaches in restorative dentistry are changed with the introduction of innovative techniques and materials in recent years. With this change, improvements and modification of luting agents became mandotary. Luting agents provide the mechanical bond and adhesion between a fixed prosthesis and the supporting tooth structure. Zinc phosphate and zinc polycarboxylate cements retained their popularity for luting fixed prosthodontic restorations. Their disadvantages are particularly solubility and lack of adhesion. In order to struggle these problems glass ionomer and resin modified glass ionomer luting agents are firstly developed. Recently resin cements became popular, primarily because they overcame the disadvantages of solubility and lack of adhesion. In this literature review, luting agents and their proporties are explained in order to give information to the dentist which can be useful in clinical practice.
