Lyme disease seropositivity in people with history of tick bite in the Isparta region of Turkey

Öz:

Lyme hastalığı dünyada yaygın bir dağılım gösterir. Klinik belirti ve bulguların nonspesifik olmasından dolayı tanı, kültür ve serolojik testlere dayanır. Serolojik testler, kolay uygulanabilir olduklarından, epidemiyolojik çalışmalarda kullanılır. Bu çalışmada, Isparta bölgesinde, kene ısırığı öyküsü olan ve olmayan kişilerde anti-Borrelia burgdorferi IgM ve IgG antikorları ELISA ile araştırıldı. Çalışma grubunun Lyme hastalığı açısından öyküsü alındı ve grup muayene edildi. Kene ısırığı öyküsü olan grupta 82 olguda 14 (%17.0) IgG seropozitifliği, kene ısırığı öyküsü olmayan kontrol grubunda 42 olguda bir (%2.) IgG seropozitifliği saptandı (p<0.05). IgM seropozitifliği ve Lyme hastalığının aktif bulguları her iki grupta da saptanmadı. Kene ısırığı ve Lyme hastalığı bulgularının öyküsü ile birlikte IgG seropozitifliği bu kişilerin B.burgdorferi ile infekte olmuş olabileceğini düşündürdü.

Isparta yöresinde kene ısırığı öyküsü olanlarda Lyme hastalığı seropozitifliği

Öz:

Lyme disease has a widespread distribution in the world. Because of non-specific clinical signs and symptoms, culture and serologic tests are performed for accurate diagnosis of the disease. Serologic tests, easy to perform, are used for detection of endemic areas. In this study, anti-Borrelia burgdorferi IgM and IgG antibodies were investigated with ELISA in people with history of tick bite and in controls without tick bite in the Isparta Region. Detailed histories related to Lyme disease were inquired, together with thorough physical examination. The results showed IgG seropositivity in 14 of 82 cases with history of tick bite (17.0%). In the control group, IgG seropositivity was detected in only one of the 42 cases (2.3%) (p<0.05). IgM seropositivity was not detected in both groups. There was no evidence of active disease in any subject of the study group. IgG seropositivity in people with positive history of tick bite and with symptoms of Lyme disease suggests that they might be infected with B. burgdorferi.
