Okul öncesi dönemde beden imajı algısı ve beden memnuniyetsizliği

Öz:

Okul öncesi dönemde beden imajı algısı ve beden memnuniyetsizliğini belirlemek amacıyla 4-6 yaş grubu 471 çocukla (225 kız ve 246 erkek) birebir görüşülerek piktogram yöntemi ile görüşleri alınmıştır. Tanımlayıcı istatistik ve Spearman’s rho korelasyon analizi sonuçlarına göre; (1) çocukların kendi beden imajı algıları gerçek beden kitle indeksleri (BKİ) ile beş yaşından itibaren istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir biçimde ilişkilidir ve korelasyon yaşla birlikte artmaktadır (5 yaş için rho= 0.40, p<0.001; 6 yaş için rho= 0.63, p<0.001) (2) beş ve altı yaş grubunda kızlar erkeklere göre daha fazla kendini olduğundan zayıf görme eğilimindedir (5 yaş kızlar % 40.2, erkekler % 23.5; 6 yaş kızlar % 35.3, erkekler % 29.9), (3) 5 yaş grubundaki çocukların % 31’i riskli kilolu, % 29.3’ü obez imajları, 6 yaş grubundaki çocukların ise % 28.8’i riskli kilolu ve % 26.3’ü normal imajı sağlıklıolarak algılama eğilimindedir (4) çocukların % 52.7’si sağlıklı olmak için çoğunlukla çok yemek gerektiğini düşünmektedir. Çalışmada okul öncesi dönemde çocuklarda beden memnuniyetsizliği oluştuğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Çocuklara sağlıklı beslenme ve düzenli fizikselaktivite bilincinin aile ve öğretmenler aracılığı kazandırılması önemlidir.

Body image perceptions and body dissatisfaction among preschoolers

Öz:

In order to investigate the self-perception of body image and to determine body dissatisfaction among preschool children, 471 children aged 4-6 years (225 girls and 246 boys) were interviewed regarding their body image and their satisfaction using figural stimuli. The descriptive statistics and the Spearman’s rho correlation test results indicated that (1) children’s body ratings started to be significantly related to their BMIs at age 5 and correlations increased with age (rho= 0.40, p<0.001; rho=0.63, p<0.001, respectively 5 and 6 years of age), (2) girls aged five and six were more likely to perceive their own body size to be thinner than boys (aged five girls 40.2%, boys 23.5%; aged six girls 35.3, boys 29.9 %) (3) children aged five mostly tended to select overweight (28.8 %) and obese figures (29.3 %) as healthy, children aged six tended to select overweight (31.0%) and normal figures (26.3 %) as healthy (4) they had a belief that eating a lot is necessary to be healthy (52.7%). It was concluded that preschool children had body dissat- isfaction. Children should gain an awareness of healthy eating and regular physical activity via parents and teachers.
