Genç bireylerin cep telefonu kullanımı ve bireysel güvenlik: Üniversite öğrencilerinin cep telefonunu bireysel güvenlik amaçlı kullanımları

Öz:
Bilgisayarlar gibi cep telefonu günlük yaşamımızın temel bir parçası haline gelmiştir. Çalışma, cep telefonu üreticilerinin en önemli hedeflerinden gençlerin, özellikle üniversite öğrencilerinin, cep telefonu kullanımı ile ilgili algılarını belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma, cep telefonunun bireysel güvenlik aracı olarak kullanımı ile ilgili üniversite öğrencilerinin bireysel deneyimlerini belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu kapsamda nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden odak grup çalışması gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma grubunu 1825 yaş arasında İstanbulda yaşayan üniversite öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Odak grup neticesinde elde edilen veriler; öğrencilerin, cep telefonun bireysel güvenlik amaçlı kullanımına ilişkin bireysel görüşlerini ve deneyimlerini içermektedir. Çalışma neticesinde; cep telefonu kullanımının en yaygın biçiminin sosyalleşme ve güvenlik amaçlı olduğu görülmüştür. Üniversite öğrencilerinin cep telefonlarını acil bir durumda ve tehlike anında yardım istemek ya da polise herhangi bir şüpheli durumu bildirmek amacıyla kullandıkları görülmektedir.

Öz:
Like the personal computers, the mobile phone has rapidly spread in the course of our basic everyday lives. The current study was undertaken to better understand the perceptions of cell phone usage among university students in İstanbul. The study adopted the qualitative (focus groups) approach, to examine issues arising from the popular social use of the cell phone. The data stems from a survey of Turkish University students aged 18-25. The data suggests university students have various feelings and attitudes toward cell phone usage. The results verify the importance of sociability and security as motives for cellular phone usage. University students use their mobile phones to call for help or report various dangers and emergencies.
