Mean platelet volume as a potential marker for predicting hypoxia in children with adenotonsillar hypertrophy

Öz:
Amaç: Adenotonsiller hipertrofi, 2-12 ya ş grubundaki çocuklarda üst solunum yolu obstrüksiyonunun s ık görülen bir nedenidir.Ortalama trombosit hacmi (MPV)trombosit aktivasyonu endekslerinden biridir ve trombosit üretim hızını yans ıtır. Hipoksidurumlar ında MPV ve trombosit üretim hızıartar. Çalış mam ızda, MPV düzeyleri ile adenotonsiller hipertrofi aras ındaki iliş kiyiincelemeyi amaçladık.Gereç ve Yöntem: Adenotonsiller hipertrofi tanıs ısonras ında opere edilen 67 hasta ve 41 ya ş vecinsiyet uyumlu sa ğlıklı birey çalış maya dahiledildi. Ara ş tır ılan belirteçler ve adenotonsillerhipertrofi aras ında kar ş ıla ş tırmalı çok değiş kenlianalizler yapıldı.Bulgular: Hastalar ve kontrol grubu ya ş vecinsiyet aç ıs ından benzerdi. Adenotonsiller hipertrofisi olan hastalar ın MPV ve trombosit da ğılım geniş liği(PDW) düzeyleri kontrol grubuna göre anlamlıolarak yüksek bulundu. (p<0,001, p <0,001) s ıras ı yla.Sonuç: Sonuçta MPV, obstrüksiyon ve hipoksi nedeniyle birçok kardiyovasküler komplikasyonaneden olabilen adenotonsiller hipertrofisinide ğerlendirmede klinisyenler için faydalı olabilir. Buhastalar ın de ğerlendirilmesinde olas ıkomplikasyonlar ıönlemekamac ı ylaoperasyonkarar ını hızlandırmak için MPV de ğerleri göz ardı edilmemelidir.

Objective: Adenotonsillar hypertrophy is a common cause of upper airway obstruction in children in the agegroup of 2-12 years. It is strongly associated with obstructive manifestations. Mean platelet volume (MPV) isone of the platelet activation markers. It reflects the platelet production rate which increases in hyopxia.Weaimed to evaluate the relationship between MPV levels and adenotonsillar hypertrophy.Materials and Methods: Sixty-seven patients which were operated after the diagnosis of adenotonsillarhypertrophy and 41 age and sex matched healthy subjects were enrolled to the study. Comparativemultivariate analyses between indicator factors and adenotonsillar hypertrophy were conducted. Results: Patients and control group were similar in terms of age and gender. MPV and platelet distributionwidth (PDW) levels of the patients with adenotonsillar hypertrophy were significantly higher than thecontrol group (p<0,001), (p<0,001) respectively.Conclusion: As a conclusion, MPV may be helpful for the clinicians to evaluate adenotonsillar hypertrophywhich may cause many cardiovascular complications due to obstruction and hypoxia. We should notoverlook MPV values while evaluating these patients because it may speed up operation decision to preventits complications.
