The Evaluation of Knowledge, Opinions, and Attitudes of Hospital Staff Except Physicians and Nurses Regarding Seasonal Influenza Vaccine
Öz: Amaç: Mevsimsel grip hastalığa, ölüme, üretim kaybıve işe devamsızlığa neden olmaktadır. Sağlık çalışan- larına yıllık grip aşısı uygulanması önerilmektedirancak birçok ülkede aşılanma yüzdesi düşüktür. Buçalışmanın amacı doktor ve hemşire dışındaki sağlıkçalışanlarının grip ve grip aşısı ile ilgili bazı bilgi vetutumlarının araştırılmasıdır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bu tanımlayıcı araştırmada,Hacettepe Üniversitesi İhsan Doğramacı ÇocukHastanesinde çalışan 248 sağlık çalışanından 179uaraştırmaya katılmayı kabul etmiştir. Otuz üç sorudanoluşan anket 179 sağlık çalışanına uygulanmıştır.Katılımcılar sosyodemografik özellikleri, grip aşısı ileaşılanma durumu, grip ve grip aşısı ile ilgili bilgi, görüşve tutumları ile ilgili soruları yanıtlamıştır. Gözlenenfarkların istatistiksel olarak değerlendirilmesi içinKi-kare testi kullanılmıştır. İstatistiksel fark için p değe- rinin 0,05ten küçük olması anlamlı kabul edilmiştir. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan katılımcıların %55,3ükadın (n=99) olup, %86sının (n=154) hastanede 5yıldan daha uzun süredir görev yaptığı belirlenmiştir.Tüm katılımcılar içinde 2013-2014 sezonunda mev- simsel grip aşısı olma yüzdesi %18,4tür (n=33). Aşıolmayanların aşı olmama nedenleri sık grip olmama(%53,4), aşının yan etkilerinden korkma (%24,6), aşısonrasında hastalanmaktan korkma (%16,4) ve aşı- nın gerekliliğine inanmamadır (%15,7). Önceki sezon- da aşı olan sağlık çalışanlarının %93,9u, aşı olma- yanların sadece %27,2si 2014-2015 sezonunda aşıolmayı düşünmektedir ve aradaki fark istatistikselolarak anlamlıdır (p<0,001). Sonuç: Araştırmanın yapıldığı hastanede grip aşısı ileaşılanma yüzdesi istenilen düzeyin altındadır. Sağlık çalışanlarına influenza sezonu öncesinde grip aşısının yararlarıve güvenirliliği ile ilgili bilgilendirme yapılması ve aşılama teşvik- leri ile birlikte gezici aşılama ekiplerinin oluşturulması gibi fayda- lı müdahaleler yaygın olarak uygulanmalıdır. Öz: Objective: Seasonal influenza infections are a lead- ing cause of illness, death, productivity loss, andabsenteeism. Annual influenza vaccination is recom- mended for healthcare workers, but vaccination rate islow in many countries. The aim of this study was toinvestigate the knowledge, opinions, and attitudes ofhospital staff except physicians and nurses towardinfluenza and influenza vaccination. Material and Methods: In this descriptive study,among 248 hospital staff working at the HacettepeUniversity, Ihsan Dogramaci Children s Hospital inAnkara, Turkey, 179 participated in the study. A ques- tionnaire with 33 questions was administered to thehospital staff. The participants answered questionsabout their sociodemographic characteristics; statusof influenza vaccination; and their opinions, attitudes,and information about influenza and influenza vacci- nation. Chi-square test was used to evaluate the sig- nificance of the observed differences. The resultswere accepted as statistically significant if p value waslower than 0.05. Results: Among the participants, 55.3% (n=99) werefemale and 86.0% (n=154) had been working for ≥5years. The seasonal influenza vaccination rate amongall participants during the 2013 2014 season was18.4% (n=33). The most important reasons for declin- ing seasonal vaccination were rare occurrence of flu(53.4%), apprehension regarding adverse effects(24.6%), concern regarding falling ill after vaccination(16.4%), and not being convinced about the necessityfor vaccination (15.7%). With regard to revaccinationin 2014 2015, 93.9% of the hospital staff vaccinatedin the previous season underwent revaccination, whereas only 27.2% of those who were not previously vacci- nated did (p<0.001). Conclusion: Influenza vaccination coverage in hospital staffwas below the desirable levels. Useful interventions, such as thetraining of the hospital staff concerning the benefits and safetyof influenza vaccination before the influenza season and the useof mobile vaccination teams in conjunction with incentives,should be widely implemented.
