A PRODUCTIVITY ENHANCER TECHNOLOGY IN MEDICAL EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT: RADIO-FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION (RFID)

Öz:
Reducing waste and increasing efficiency in health care is a global problem. To solve these problems, a number of tools, techniques, methods and technologies are utilized. In recent years, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is often preferred in the health care sector to increase productivity as it has been used in other sectors. Using RFID technology in tracking and controlling patients, staff, equipment, materials, fixture and stocks in healthcare industry has become very popular worldwide. Hospitals consume most of the health expenses and costs of medical materials, medicine and medical equipment generate 40 %-45 % of their budgets. Hospitals are required to benefit from RFID technology to manage their budgets effectively and efficiently, to provide cost-effective health services and to ensure increase in patient safety and service quality. The aim of this article is to investigate the theoretical developments in the usage of RFID system as a productivity assessment technique in effective management of medical supplies in healthcare sector.
