Öz:

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı travmatik kayıplar sonrası oluşabilecek travma sonrası gelişim (TSG) deneyimini incelemektir. Çalışmada, travmatik kayıp ile ilgili faktörlerin TSG üzerindeki etkisi araştırılmıştır. Yöntem: Çalışmaya, ani veya travmatik koşullar sebebiyle birinci dereceden akraba veya romantik partnerini kaybeden 132 kişi katılmıştır. Katılımcılar, yakınlarını 5-17 ay arasındaki sürede kaybetmiştir. Bulgular: Yas yoğunluğu ile TSG arasında anlamlı bir kurvilineer ilişki bulunurken, kayba ilişkin travmatik algı düzeyleri ile TSG düzeyleri arasında pozitif bir ilişki olduğu gözlenmiştir. Yapılan hiyerarşik regresyon analizi sonucu, kayba yönelik travmatik algı düzeyinin, sorun odaklı baş etme, dinsel yönden baş etme ve sosyal destek ile baş etme yollarının, TSG düzeylerindeki varyansın %32'sini açıkladığı bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Bu çalışma verileri travmatik kayıpların pozitif değişimlere yol açan dönüştürücü deneyimler olabileceği fikrini desteklemektedir. Ancak kayıp sonrası yaşanan düşük veya yüksek stres düzeyleri travma sonrası gelişime ket vurabileceğinden, kayıp sonrası stres ve yas yoğunluğu uygun klinik değerlendirmeden geçmelidir. Klinik girişimlerin, bireylerin travmatik kayıplarıyla daha kayıp odaklı etkili baş etme stilleri geliştirmeleri yönünde yardımı amaç edinmeleri önemlidir. (Anadolu Psikiyatri Derg 2016; 17(1):5-11)

Öz:

Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the experience of posttraumatic growth (PTG) in bereaved individuals. The contributory role of traumatic loss related factors in the development of PTG were explored. Methods: One-hundred and thirty two bereaved individuals who lost a first degree relative or a romantic partner between 5 to 17 months ago took part in the study. Results: A curvilinear relationship between grief intensity and growth was found. Perceiving the loss as traumatic event was found to be significantly related with higher levels of PTG. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses indicated that traumatic perception of loss and coping styles (problem-focused, social support, religious coping) explained 32% of the variance in PTG. Conclusion: The findings of this study support that traumatic losses can be transformative experiences that initiate positive changes in bereaved individuals. However, post-bereavement stress as well as grief intensity should be assessed properly since low and high levels of distress would impede the development of PTG. Clinical interventions should consider promoting grief-focused effective ways of coping with traumatic loss in order to enhance growth in bereavement.
