Objective: The objective is to compare the pregnancy resultsin adolescent age group with pregnancy results of the pregnantwomen in reproductive age.Material and Method: In 2009 and 2010, among patients whoapplied to our hospital, results regarding 402 pregnant adolescentsbetween ages of 14-18 and the 302 pregnant women betweenages of 19-35 were retrospectively evaluated. Infantswith a birth weight less than 2500 g were considered as infantswith low birth weight. Proportions of premature rupture ofmembranes (PROM), preterm birth, ablatio placentae, preeclampsiaand intrauterine mort fetus (IUMF) for both groupswere determined.Findings: Average age of adolescent pregnant women werefound to be 16.9±0.9 years (14-18 year-olds), whereas averageage of the pregnant women at reproductive phase were determinedas 25.9±4.4 years (19-35 year-olds). According to data,60 adolescent pregnant women (14.9 %) did not attend obstetricsfollowing initial appeal. In adolescent group, 35 (10.9 %)preterm birth cases were revealed, whereas the number was 10(3.3 %) for reproductive age group; besides, adolescent grouphad a total of 14 (4.1 %) PROM cases, whereas the controlgroup comprised PROM in 10 cases (3.3 %). No significantdifference was detected between the groups in terms of pretermbirth and PROM. 8 (2.3 %) and 4 (1.3 %) cases had IUMF inadolescent and reproductive age groups, respectively; and nostatistically-significant difference was found. Preeclampsiarates were 1.5 % for adolescent, and 1.3 % for reproductiveage group. As for ablatio placentae, a percentage of 0.3 % wasfound for both age groups.Conclusion: Our study does not demonstrate any increase inperinatal problems with adolescent pregnant women comparedto reproductive age group; nevertheless, more extensive studiesare needed in order to reduce the number of such pregnanciesand minimise perinatal complications.
