Opinions of Otorhinolaryngology Residents about Their Education Process

Öz:

Amaç: Çalışmamız Kulak Burun Boğaz (KBB) eğitim sürecini asistanların görüşlerini almak ve bu sürecin daha etkin sürdürülmesi konusunda yapılan çalışmalara ışık tutmak amacıyla planlanmıştır. Yöntemler: Tüm eğitim kliniklerinde eğitim süreci devam eden uzmanlık eğitimi öğrencilerinin (UEÖ) e-posta adreslerine hazırlanmış olan değerlendirme formları "Google Drive" ile gönderildi. Form gönderilen 354 UEÖ'sinde, 74'ü yanıt verdi ve verilen yanıtlar elektronik ortamda değerlendirildi. Bulgular: "Asistan Karnesi" kullanımı hakkında sorulan soruya 50 (%67.56) UEÖ olumlu yanıt verdi ve kurumlar arasında fark saptanmadı. UEÖ'lerin dokuzu (%12.16) hiç bilimsel yayın okumadığını söylerken, 43'ü (%58.1) ayda 3'ten az sayıda bilimsel makale okuduğunu bildirdi. UEÖ'lerin 41'i (%55.4) iyi ve yeterli bir eğitim aldı- ğı görüşündeydi. Yeterli bir eğitim almadığını bildiren UEÖ'lerin 17'si (% 51.51) eğitim süresinin daha uzun olması gerektiğini düşünmekteydi. UEÖ'lerinden eğitim süreçlerini değerlendirmeleri istendiğinde 66'sı (%89.18) "Yorucu", 52'si (%70.27) "Stresli" olarak değerlendirirken, "Eğitici" veya "Yararlı" olarak değerlendirenlerin sırasıyla 26 (%35.13) ve 17 (%22.97) olduğu görüldü. Eğitimlerinin üçüncü yılı ve üzerinde olan 48 UEÖ'den 43'ü (%89.58) eğitimleri sonrasında, ankette verilen listedeki işlemlerden en az birini yapamayacağını belirtti. Sonuç: Bu çalışma KBB UEÖ görüşleri hakkındaki ilk çalışma olduğu için ve Türkiye'deki mevcut durumun tespiti açısından önemlidir. Bu çalışma aynı zamanda gelecekteki eğitim programları ve rehberlerin hazırlanmasına da yararlı olacaktır.

Kulak Burun Boğaz Hastalıkları Uzmanlık Öğrencilerinin Eğitim Süreçlerine Bakışı

Öz:

Objective: Our study was planned to get the views ofresidents about the Otorhinolaryngology (ORL) educationprocess and to enlighten the studies to make thisprocess more effective.Methods: A questionnaire was sent to the residentswho were still in the residency program in all educationclinics via “Google Drive”. Seventy-four of 354 residentsresponded and the answers were evaluated electronically.Results: Fifty residents (67.56%) gave an affirmativeanswer to the question about the use of “Resident LogBook” and no difference was seen among the clinics.While 9 residents (12.16%) were reporting that theydid not read any scientific papers, 43 (58.1%) reportedthey read less than three per month. Forty-one residentsthougt that they were having a good and sufficienteducation. Seventeen residents (51.51%) who thoughtthey were not having a sufficient education reportedthat the education period should be longer. When theywere wanted to evaluate the education process, while66 of them (89.18%) said “Exhausting”, 52 (70.27%)said “Stressful”, it was seen that the ones who said“Instructive” and “Rewarding” were 26 (35.13%) and17 (22.97%) respectively. Further, 43 of 48 residents(89.58%) who were over the third year of their residencyprogram indicated that they were unable to perform atleast one procedure listed in the questionnaire after finishingtheir education.Conclusion: This study is important because it is thefirst study about the opinion of ORL residents and willhelp determine the current status in Turkey. This studywill be useful for the preparation of educational programsand guides in the future.
