Klinikte İhmal Edilen Bir Konu: Transseksüel Bireylerde İntihar Riski

Öz:

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı transseksüel bireylerde özellikle ergenlik öncesi ve ergenlik dönemlerindeki intihar düşüncelerinin ve girişimlerinin yaygınlığını belirlemektirBu çalışmaya 141 transseksüel birey alındı. Yarı yapılandırılmışgörüşme formuyla katılımcılarda halen intihar düşünceleri varlığı ve yaşamboyu intihar girişimi ya da düşüncesi olup olmadığı bilgisi alındı. Bubulgular katılımcıların sosyodemografik özellikleri ve aile içinde cinsellikve dinle ilgili tutum ve inançlara dair verilen bilgiler ile karşılaştırıldı. Araş-tırmaya katılan transseksüel bireylerin 101'i en az bir yıl boyunca gruppsikoterapisine katıldılar. Grup psikoterapilerinde aile ve partner ilişkileri,mesleki ve maddi sorunlar, tıbbi konular, dini kaygılar sıklıkla çalışıldıBulgular: Katılımcılar arasında intihar girişimi olduğunu bildirenlerinoranı %29,8'di. Halen ve yaşam boyu intihar düşüncesi olduğunu bildirenlerinoranı ise sırasıyla %9,2 ve %55,3 olarak saptandı. İntihar girişimlerinin%76,7'si 21 yaşından önce gerçekleşmişti.Sonuç: Transseksüel bireyler özellikle ergenlik dönemlerinde yüksekoranda intihar riski taşırlar. Bu sonuç cinsel kimlik sorunları yaşayanbireylerle çalışırken özellikle ergenlik döneminde koruyucu önlemleralmamız gerektiğine dair bir işaret olarak değerlendirilebilir

A Clinically Neglected Topic: Risk of Suicide in Transgender Individuals

Öz:

Introduction: The aim of this study was to determine whether adolescence of transgender individuals is characterized by a high risk of suicide. Methods: In total, 141 participants with transgenderism were questioned using a semi-structured interview to determine whether participants had current suicidal thoughts, had a lifetime history of such thoughts, or had attempted suicide. These findings were cross-referenced to the participants' sociodemographic characteristics, and information about their families' general attitudes toward sexuality, gender identity, and commitment to religious views. In total, 101 participants attended group psychotherapy sessions for at least a year. In these sessions, family and partner relationships, occupationaproblems, financial problems, medical issues, and religious concernswere discussed.Results: The incidence of suicide attempts, current suicidal thoughts, andlifetime suicidal thoughts were 29.8%, 9.2%, and 55.3%, respectively. Intotal, 76.7% of the suicide attempts occurred before the age of 21.Conclusion: Transsexual individuals present a high risk of suicide, particularlyduring adolescence. This finding may be considered a sign fortaking action to prevent suicide when working with transgender individuals,particularly during adolescence.
