The objective of this study is to evaluate the medication administration errors experienced by nurses in emergency services in terms of patient, employee safety and emergency department. This study is a descriptive and qualitative study. The study was performed with nurses working in emergency services of one university hospital and two education and research hospitals. It was obtained written permission from the hospitals' management and informed consents of the participating nurses. The ratio of nurses willing to participate in the study was only 12%. Data of the study was collected through in-depth individual interviews and semi-structured questionnaire form. The findings obtained during the interviews were discussed using case analysis method. The most common medication administration errors experienced by nurses in emergency services were found to be wrong patient, wrong medication and wrong administration technique. Medication errors in the emergency services were determined to have threatened patients' lives seriously but have not lead to death. Medication errors in the emergency departments were determined as both individual and system and communication errors. It might be suggested that to adherence to safe medication practices in clinic and the development of protocols for the use and storage of high-risk medication and to the nurses' skills and competence to apply medications under stress in the emergency service orientation programs and to research for prevent medication administration errors.
