TY - JOUR TI - The Neolithic Cave Settlements of the Antalya Region in Southwestern Anatolia: A Comparative Perspective in Terms of Chipped Stone Assemblages AB - Located in southwest Anatolia, Antalya is alarge city on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey,which contains numerous archaeological siteswithin its borders. Throughout human history,Antalya has hosted many cultures from theearliest phases to the modern civilizations.Today, Antalya continues to be a popularcenter for many domestic and foreign touristswith both its historical and resort appeal. Theearliest findings regarding the prehistory ofAntalya have been recovered in the cavessituated to the north-northwest of the city,referred also as “the Western Taurus Caves”.These include the caves at Suluin, Öküzini,and Karain. Current evidence suggests thathuman occupation continued in some of thesecaves during the period after the Pleistoceneand in the Early Holocene. Within the scope ofthis study, the similarities or the differences interms of technology and typology of the lithicindustries will be discussed by reviewing theanalytical studies performed on the chippedstone assemblages recovered from the cavesinhabited during the Neolithic Period.
