Sustainable Tourism Research Towards Twenty-Five Years of the Journal of Sustainable Tourism

Öz:
The Journal of Sustainable Tourism (JOST) is a mainjournal in ‘Geography, Planning and Development’. Theconcept of sustainable tourism has gained importance overtime. This paper presents a general overview of the journalover its lifetime by using bibliometric indicators. Moreover,in order to establish the position of sustainable tourismresearch, this paper identifies the trends in researchthrough bibliometric studies. It uses the Scopus database toanalyse the bibliometric data. This analysis includes keyissues such as the publication and citation structure of thejournal; the most cited articles; the leading authors,institutions, and countries in the journal; and the keywordsthat are most often used. This paper also uses thevisualization of similarities to graphically map thebibliographic material. This analysis provides furtherinsights into how JOST links to other journals and how it links researchers across the globe. These results indicatethat JOST is one of the leading journals in the areas wherethe journal is indexed, with a wide range of authors frominstitutions and countries from all over the worldpublishing in it. The results of the current study canprovide insights into topics related to sustainable tourismthat can be researched in the future.
