Effect of low birthweight on serum tyroid hormones, glucose, urea and blood pH in newborn lambs

Öz:
Bu çalışmada, altı kontrol (doğum ağırlığı a 25 kg) ve yedi düşük doğum ağırlığına sahip (doğum ağırlığı <2.5 kg, hypotrofik) merinos kuzuda, doğumdan sonraki 2., 4., 8. ve 24. saatlerde serum tiroit hormonları, glikoz ve üre düzeyleri ile kan pH'sı değerleri karşılaştırıldı. Deneme periyodu boyunca, hipotrofik hayvanların serum total tiroksin (T4), serbest tiroksin (FT4), total triiyodotironin (T3; 24.saatteki değeri hariç), serbest triiyodotironin (FT3; 4., 8. ve 24. saatlerdeki değeri hariç) ve glikoz düzeyleri kontrol kuzuları ile karşılaştırıldığında daha düşük miktarlardaydı. Hipotrofik kuzuların serum üre düzeyleri ise kontrol hayvanların aynı değerinden daha yüksekti. Diğer yandan, her iki grupta doğumdan sonraki 4. ve 8. saatlerde belirlenen serum T3, FT3 ve FT4 düzeyleri, 2. ve 24. saatlerdeki aynı değerler ile karşılaştırıldığında artmış bulundu. Hipotrofik kuzuların serum T4 düzeyinde de benzer bir görünüm vardı, ilave olarak, diğer örnekleme zamanlarına göre doğumdan sonraki 2. saatte, hipotrofik kuzuların serum glikoz düzeyleri daha yüksek, her iki grubun kan pH'sı değerleri daha düşüktü. Sonuç olarak, düşük doğum ağırlığının kuzularda neonatal tiroit fonksiyonunu, serum glikoz ve üre düzeylerini etkilediği gözlendi.

Öz:
In this study, serum thyroid hormone, glucose and urea levels as well as blood pH values were compared between six control (birthweight a 2.B kg) and seven experimental Merino lambs (birthweight < 2.5 kg, hypotrophic) at 2, 4, 8 and 24 h postpartum. Serum levels of total thyroxin (T4), free thyroxin (FT4), total triiodothyronine (T3; with exception of 24 h postpartum), free triiodothyronine (FT3; with the exception of 4, 8 and 24 h postpartum) and glucose were lower in hypotrophic lambs compared to the controls. However, the serum urea levels of hypotrophic animals were higher than those of the controls. On the other hand, serum T3, FT3 and FT4 levels determined at 4 and 8 h were higher than those at 2 and 24 h postpartum in both groups. A similar case was also observed in the serum T4 levels of hypotrophic lambs. In addition, the serum glucose levels of hypotrophic lambs were higher and the blood pH values of both groups were lower at 2 h postpartum. In conclusion, It was observed that low birthweight affected neonatal thyroid function, serum glucose and urea levels in lambs.
