Öz:
Objective: A goal determines the outcome of the match in soccer. Therefore, a goal analysis has been become very important both coaches and match analysts. The European Football Championship offers the opportunity to explore the best teams and players in Europe. The aim of this study is to analyze the goals scored in the 2016 European Football Championship in terms of new football trends. Material and Methods: The sample of this study constituted of 51 matches and 108 goals which were played and scored in Euro 2016. The research data were collected in the form of monitoring and taking note of the whole competition. Goals were analyzed in five different ways. The first analysis included the time of the goals, the second analysis included how the goals happened (way of attack), the third analysis included shot type of goals scored (foot or head), the forth analysis included actions leading up to goals scored (one touch, two touch and three or more touch) and the fifth analysis included goals zone. Frequency and percentages which are descriptive statistics were used for analysis of the research data. Results: As a result of research it was observed that 61.2% (66 goals) of goals were scored in the 2nd half of the games, 75% (81 goals) of goals were scored after organized attack (open play), 78.7% (85 goals) of goals were scored with foot shot, 68.5% (74 goals) of goals were scored with a single touch, 83.3% (90 goals) of the goals were scored through the penalty area and 61.1% (66 goals) of the goals were scored in 3 zone that identified in the penalty area. Conclusion: Given these results, it can be suggested to coach to use 3 zone that identified in the penalty area for more effective attack for more goals scored and to use 3 zone that identified in the penalty area for more effective defense for less goals conceded.
