TY - JOUR TI - INFLATION AND INFLATION UNCERTAINTY IN TURKEY: EVIDENCE FROM EGARCH MODELING AB - Inflation leads to significant welfare losses to society, even if it is predictable. Inflation uncertainty also haswelfare costs via distorted relative prices and resource allocation. Turkish economy experienced high andhighly volatile inflation since 1970s. This study investigates the relationship between inflation and inflationuncertainty employing the AR-EGARCH-M model using monthly Turkish inflation data between January 1968to December 2017. The empirical results suggest that higher inflation rates increased inflation uncertainty inTurkey, providing strong support for the Friedman-Ball hypothesis. However, the response of inflationuncertainty to inflation is negative but not statistically significant. Lastly, the asymmetric effect has beenfound to be statistically significant, which implies that a positive shock increases inflation uncertainty less thana negative shock AU - GENÇ, MURAT CAN AU - EKİNCİ, Aykut DO - 10.18092/ulikidince.451734 PY - 2018 JO - Uluslararası İktisadi ve İdari İncelemeler Dergisi VL - 0 IS - Prof. Dr. Harun TERZİ Özel Sayısı SN - 1307-9832 SP - 475 EP - 486 DB - TRDizin UR - http://search/yayin/detay/323310 ER -
