Economic Impact of Rohingya Exodus on Bangladesh

Öz:
Rohingyas of the Rakhine state of Myanmar have earned the status of migrantswhile escaping from mass killing and torture. Bangladesh has been their close destinationsince the first attempt to migrate and it has welcomed them. This studyaims at uncovering the economic impact of the Rohingya crisis in Bangladesh, which has faced the first wave of the influx, through understanding the changesin its economy. The Rohingya exodus may not have affected the economy yet butit has already caused enough trouble to its only touristic region, Cox’s Bazar. Thebusiness intervention of China and Myanmar has a significant role in creating thecurrent crisis. Thus, Rakhine state under the surveillance of the Myanmar militarywitnessed torture and persecution of Rohingya Muslim community for decades. Therefore, the international community has to come forward immediately and forceMyanmar to resolve the crisis and help recover Bangladesh from great distress.

Rohingya Toplu Göçünün Bangladeş’e Ekonomik Etkileri

Öz:
Myanmar’ın Arakan eyaletinin Rohingya bölgesindeki işkence ve katliamlardan kaçanlar mülteci statüsü kazanmıştır. Bangladeş, yakın konumu sebebiyle göçmenlerin ilk varış noktası olmuştur. Bu çalışma, Rohingya krizinin ilk göç dalgası ile karşı karşıya kalan Bangladeş ekonomisindeki değişiklikleri anlamaya çalışarak, ekonomik etkileri ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlamaktadır. Rohingya’dan gelen göçmen akımı henüz ekonomiyi etkilememiş olabilir ancak halihazırda turistik bölge olan Cox’s Bazar’da olumsuz etkileri hissedilmektedir. Çin ve Myanmar’ın ticari müdahalesi de mevcut krizin ortaya çıkmasında önemli rol oynamıştır. Myanmar ordusunun gözlemi altındaki Arakan eyaleti, onlarca yıldır Rohingya Müslüman topluluğunun gördüğü işkence ve baskıya şahitlik etmiştir. Bu sebeple uluslararası toplum bir an önce adım atarak Myanmar’ı çözüm için zorlayarak Bangladeş’i bu sorundan kurtarmaya çalışmalıdır.
