TY - JOUR TI - Effects of infertility treatment on anxiety and depression levels AB - Purpose: In this study we aimed to show the most relatedfactors with women's anxiety and depression levels as wellfind out the differences between primary and secondaryinfertile women with unexplained reason.Materials and Methods: This was a prospectivecontrolled study of 166 primary and 60 secondary infertilewomen. They had unexplained infertility and had not anyhormonal or uterine pathology. Beck DepressionInventory and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale were usedfor questionnaire. Results: While there were not any differences betweentwo groups for anxiety and depression scores as well forsubgroups, secondary infertile women showed a higherrate of severe depression than primary infertile women(11/60 vs. 10/166). While patients' age was correlated withanxiety score, number of treatment attempts wascorrelated with depression score. Conclusion: Infertility treatment does not have onlyphysical side effects but it has also psychological burdenfor women. While having a child is very important forsome cultures it may not decrease the stress of womenwhom started infertility treatment and wanted to havemore. It is important to support the women whomundergo infertility treatment whether is primary orsecondary infertile, while this affect the patient's moodpositively as well may increase the success of treatment.
