TY - JOUR TI - Relationship between adherence to treatment and acceptance of illness in patients with type 2 diabetes AB - Purpose: This study aimed at examining the relationshipbetween patient acceptance of illness and adherence totreatment with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptivestudy was conducted in a state hospital in Sinop with 200patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The PatientIdentification Form, Illness Acceptance Scale, andAdherence Scale to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Treatmentwere applied to collect the study data.Results: In our study, the mean score of the patients'acceptance scale was 24.12 ± 9.30 and 61.5% of thepatients scored below this average. This indicates thatpatients' acceptance levels are low. When the scores ofType 2 Diabetes Mellitus Acceptance Scale were evaluated,their compliance with the treatment was found to bemoderate (107.39 ± 13.55). There was a significant andnegative relationship between the patients' illnessacceptance scale scores and treatment adherence scalescores (-0.78).Conclusion: Majority of patients had low level ofadmission and moderate compliance to treatment.
