TY - JOUR TI - Attitudes’ of University Students towards Organ Donation and Transplantation AB - Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify theconsciousness and attitudes toward organ and tissue donationand transplantation among the university students in facultyof economics and administrative sciences, department ofhealth management.Material-Method: This study used a cross-sectional approach. It was conducted between December 2017 and March 2018.Data were collected from 362 students in faculty of economicsand administrative sciences, department of health management. Results: According to the results of this study, healthmanagement students support organ and tissue donation andtransplantation (82%). Despite the fact that a small numberof students were generally willing to donate their organs andtissue (3.9%), the majority of the students are in a positivemanner toward donation and transplantation. The basicreasons for the students who do not want to donate theirtissues and organs are belief (33.8%) and fear (46.2%). Whenlooking at the regression model, being informed is statisticallysignificant predictor for the positive attitude toward organ andtissue donation and transplantation. The other independentvariables (gender, age, income, rural / urban) have no role inthe regression model. Conclusions: Although the students have knowledge andpositive attitude about organ and tissue transplantation anddonation, it is seen that the level of consciousness is not sufficientto be a donor. In order to overcome these obstacles, students whodo not want to make donations due to fear, family influence orbelief need to be educated.
