Recent scientific evidence with respect to a popular plant: Brazil nuts

Öz:
Bertholletia excelsa Humb.&Bonpl. is a plant grown in South American countries, where seeds of the plant are consumed as food in these countries and in the United States. The seed part of the plant is very rich in phytochemicals; high content of flavonoids, phenolic acids, minerals, amino acids and fatty acids. The content of oil derived from the seeds is very rich in omega 3, 6 and 9. The plant which is rich in tocopherol, phytosterols and phenolic compounds has potential advantages in health. Due to its high selenium content, the plant plays a role in the antioxidant activity selenodeiodinease enzymes such as glutathione peroxidase, selenoprotein P and tyrosine reductase and provides a positive effect on the symptoms of selenium deficiency. There are scientific studies published in internationally respected journals about the biological effects of plant seeds. The studies revealed that, phytochemicals contained in the seeds of the plant have proven their antioxidant, antiinflammatory, anticancer, nervous system and preventive effects on cardiovascular risks.
