TY - JOUR TI - Clinicalopathological evaluation of soft tissue myxofibrosarcoma AB - Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate therelationship between the clinical course of these tumors byemphasizing the epidemiological data as well as thepathological features of different myxofibrosarcoma cases.Materials and Methods: 22 cases of myxofibrosarcomawere included in the single center study. Age, gender, tumor location, size, histopathological features as well astreatment modalities and clinical follow-up of the caseswere also evaluated. Additional immunohistochemicalstudies were applied for the differential diagnosis inpathological evaluation. Results: The mean age of the patients was 54 years oldand there is no sex predilection. The extremities are themost common location. Deep located myxofibrosarcomawere highly aggressive unlike superficial counterparts. Thegrade given as a result of pathological examination isclosely related to the clinical course. Since the meanrecurrence period is 16 months, long term follow up isrequired. Recurrence is present in all metastatic cases.Death from the disease occurred only in those with ahigher grade. Conclusion: Myxofibrosarcomas are rarely seen butdiagnostically challenging. Accurate diagnosis is essentialto differentiate myxofibrosarcoma from otherpleomorphic sarcomas, and to manage the treatment ofpatients since it may mimic even reactive lesions byhistopathologically. Superficial and low grademyxofibrosarcoma of present study showed excellentprognosis and it has been presented as a contribution tothe literature that these patients may have a good prognosiswith correct diagnosis and treatment.
