In this study, children’s songs in primary school Music lesson textbooks of 1st-4th grade approved by the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of education and the Board of Education in 2019/2020 academic year were examined in terms of values education, by determining the values in those songs, attention was paid to the importance of song texts in terms of values education. Total 60 children’s songs in the Music lesson textbooks were examined based on the document scanning model, which is one of the qualitative research approaches. Song texts in the aforementioned books were scanned and values are classified by plugging, messages have been removed and related determinations and evaluations were made. In addition, 2019 curriculum of all courses (Life Sciences, Turkish Language, Mathematics, Visual Arts, Music, English Language, Physical Education and Game, Religion, Culture and Moral Knowledge, Social Studies, Science), except for the music curriculum in primary school were examined in terms of the values that the student should gain. At the end of the examination total, 20 values including the “forgiveness”, “friendship”, “being in a favour of peace and tranquillity”, courage”, “diligence”, “solidarity”, “honesty”, “having skills”, “having knowledge”, “mercy”, “hospitality”, “advice giving”, “liberty”, “patience”, “respect”, “love”, “responsibility”, “being frugal”, “fidelity”, “helpfulness” were determined. Music effects and improves the child’s life in many ways. For example, while singing the child learns the spoken words and the subtleties of the language. On the other hand, the songs that the child sings with his/her friends contribute to his/her development of social-emotional skills. Usually, children’s songs are sung in company of rhythm and dance. So, the physical and psychomotor development of the child is positively affected. In addition, the child learns his/her values and cultural heritage with songs suitable for his/her interests and levels. Thanks to this, music ensures that national and universal values are preserved and transferred to future generations. The songs examined within the scope of the study are thought to meet these expectations. However, music teachers should have these sensitivities and teach their students. We considered that the values determined within the scope of the study to play an important role in children’s life. For example, families who have lore and knowledge, and have a strong spiritual infrastructure, in the community they stay strong with the trust. So, as well as to living in a loving example family, they become a bridge that carries values from the past to the future. On the other hand, the child spends the most productive hours of the day at school. So, this time frame is important for his/her personality development. Children who have gained values such as “friendship”, “solidarity”, “helpfulness” adapt to the school culture more easily. Values adopted from an early age also affect an individual’s future business life. The values determined in the study cover the national and human values needed by the society. For this reason, it will be appropriate to benefit from children’s songs, which include values such as “honesty”, “responsibility”, “diligence”, in values education. The Ministry of National Education included Root values in the curriculum. We can list these values as “justice”, “friendship”, “honesty”, “self-control”, “patience”, “respect”, “love”, “responsibility”, “patriotism”, “helpfulness”. The songs analyzed within the scope of the study, only the “justice” value could not be reached. The value of “self-control” is indirectly included in the value of “giving advice”. For example, from responsible student who pays attention to cleanliness we expect to have self-control skills. Moreover, it is stated in the program that the root values will come to life in the teaching and learning process by dealing with themselves, both with the associated sub-values and with other root values. At this point, it can be stated that the values determined in the songs examined complement each other. Thus, we can’t expect mercy from someone who is intolerant, and someone who is not just is not trusted. Music education should give pleasure to students, develop their artistic skills, and to transfer values to children. For this reason, songs should contain values on one hand and the other hand keep students alive with harmony and rhythm. Because rhythm and harmony provide a better understanding of the subject and it helps to do the lesson happier. In this way the melody and lyrics of the song settle in the mind of the children. Children’s songs, which contribute to the child’s easy learning, are an important opportunity in terms of value education. For this reason, it is not correct to see the music lesson only as an entertainment tool. Teachers should emphasize to their students that a planned music education
