TY - JOUR TI - Influences of uterine tubal factors on oocyte maturation and embryo segmentation AB - OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of uterine tubal epithelium or its fluid on in vitro oocyte maturation and embryo development of rats. STUDY DESIGN: For this purpose, mature, immature cumulus oocyte complexes (COC) and embryos from wister albino rats were used. Mature and immature COC of control groups were incubated in 10% EBSS (Earle's Balanced Salt Solution) and control embryos were cultured in 15% EBSS. Test groups were cultured with same culture mediums in which uterine tubal fluid or uterine tubal epithelium was added. Survivals of oocytes and embryos were evaluated with a phase-contrast inverted microscope. In vitro maturation of oocyte and embryo segmentation were observed with light, fluorescence and transmission electron microscopes. RESULTS: When uterine tubal epithelium or its fluid were added to the conventional culture medium, the maturation of immature oocytes was increased and the segmentation ratios of embryos was accelerated. CONCLUSIONS: Addition of uterine tubal epithelium or its fluid to the conventional medium as a source of various endogenous mediators bringing out more alikeness in vivo conditions may play an important role in paracrine communications for better maturation of oocytes and viabilities of pre-implantation embryos.
