TY - JOUR TI - A Coin Trapped in Meckel’s Diverticulum AB - Foreign body ingestion is a common problem among children. Most foreign bodies that have passed the esophagus will passuneventfully through the intestinal tract. Foreign bodies thatremain blocked in the narrower segments of the gastrointestinaltract require intervention. We herein report the case of a child whopresented with a coin trapped in Meckel’s diverticulum (MD). A2-year-old boy was brought to our hospital 3 months after ingestionof coin. Physical examination showed no abdominal tenderness.Laboratory was normal. The foreign body appeared to be a coinlocated in the middle lower quadrant in the abdominal X-ray.Exploratory laparotomy was performed, and Meckel's diverticulumwas discovered. The coin was detected in Meckel?’s diverticulumand it wedge resection were performed. After the operation, thepatient had an uneventful recovery and started enteral feedingwithin 5 days. Early treatment of ingested foreign bodies in thegastrointestinal system is important in terms of preventing possiblecomplications. The determination of the exact location of the coin, decision for intervention, and management may be difficult incases with prolonged lodgment. The diagnosis of MD should beconsidered when there is a prolonged lodgment of a foreign body inthe lower quadrant AU - CANKORKMAZ, LEVENT DO - 10.14235/bas.galenos.2020.4705 PY - 2021 JO - Bezmiâlem Science VL - 9 IS - 3 SN - 2148-2373 SP - 366 EP - 368 DB - TRDizin UR - http://search/yayin/detay/450650 ER -
