Measures to be Taken Against the Coronavirus Outbreak in Dentistry Practice

Öz:
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), which first appeared in Wuhan city of China in December 2019, has become an important public health problem by affecting the whole world in a short period of time. COVID-19 is a disease that is transmitted from person to person through droplet and contact, causing high fever, and can seriously affect the airways with symptoms of cough and shortness of breath. Dentists and their patients' probability of encountering with pathogenic microorganisms such as viruses and bacteria in the oral cavity and respiratory tract is very high. Patients who are coughing, sneezing, or undergoing dental treatment, dentist-patient communication, the use of high-speed hand tools or ultrasonic instruments cause aerosols to spread to the clinical setting through saliva or blood. Therefore, it is critical for those working in the field of dentistry to know and apply the necessary preventive measures to prevent the spread of the disease during the COVID-19 outbreak. In this article, current literature information including general information that dentists should know about this disease during the outbreak of COVID19, infection control measures to be taken in dentistry practice, difficulties that may be encountered in this period and recommendations to dentists were presented.
