TY - JOUR TI - Effect of training program given to the students upon family planning attitudes: a semi-experimental study AB - Purpose: Family planning is an effective strategy to minimize maternal mortality, child death, miscarriages and unintended pregnancies. Nursing students, the future’s health personnel, should have sufficient knowledge and a positive attitude towards family planning services. This study was undertaken to examine the effect of training program given to the nursing students upon family planning attitudes. Materials and Methods: The study, with a control group and semi-experimental design, was done at a university located in southern Turkiye. The sample of the study was consisted of 100 students, 50 students assigned to the experimental group and another 50 students to the control group. The experimental group students received weekly a two-hour family planning training for 10 weeks (except for the 1st and 10th weeks). The control group received no training. “Information Request Form” -which included students’ socio-demographic aspects- and “Family Planning Attitude Scale” was administered to the participants in the experimental and control groups in the 1st week and last week- were used. Results: Following the family planning training, the experimental group students’ family planning attitude scores went up and this rise was found to statistically be significant. In the study, it was concluded that training intervention affected students’ family planning attitudes positively. Conclusion: There is an urgent need for behavior change interventions so that a positive attitude change towards family planning can be achieved among students.
