TY - JOUR TI - THE DECORATION in TRADITIONAL HOUSESANATOLIAN in $19^{TH}$ CENTURY: THE EXAMPLE of ÇANKIRI AB - Çankırı is a city rich in culture and art. The housesconstitute the major parts of Cankırı’s historic urbanfabric. Aside from some regional differences; thehouses spreaded thick around the southern andwestern hillsides of Cankırı Castle bear thetraditional Turkish Houses features. With a generalclassification; Cankırı embodies the adobe filledtimber framing, console supported plain outer sofahouse types observed within the zone of NorthernAnatolia civil architecture samples. In the formerresidential area of the city, the houses’ main façadeoverlooks south, fittingly with the structure of theland. Whereas the northern facades are closed. Thefact that the main façades taking full advantage ofthe sun and the view of the hillside has allowed forthe construction of inner sofa type house. The oldestexamples of the houses are the inner sofa housetypes. Generally, the buildings have beenconstructed with gypsum braided, adobe filledtimber framing. Whereas wooden materials areused in constructions without being processed indoors, windows, ceilings, floors, carpets,bathrooms, moldings and roof eaves. In some cases,various ornaments have been used in the ceilings ofthe structures, on the steps of the stair railing, on thedoors, on the borders, in the grout and cabinets.
