The Relationship between the Nanny and the Family

Öz:
Especially in the urban settlements, an increasing number of families employ childcare providers, some of whom are nannies. Unlike most of other occupations, nannies are actively involved in the daily lives of their employer families. Moreover, the cared children spend most of the day with their nannies. Since the children’s interactions and their subsequent attachment patterns in the first year of life are known to affect life adjustment in later years, it is important to investigate the nanny care and their effects on the cared children’s psychological development. However, to best of our knowledge, there are no publications, which have evaluated and integrated the literature on the matter. The present narrative review article is aimed towards filling this gap. In accordance with this aim, we have two goals: First, presenting an overview of nannying and nanny employment in Turkey; second, summarizing the literature pertaining to the relationship dynamics between the nannies and the employer families.
