Public Spaces of Post-Industrial Cities and Their Changing Roles

Öz:
Tarih boyunca kentlerin ayrılmaz parçalarından biri olan kamusal mekanlara son 25-30 yıl içinde ilgi hızla artmakta; özellikle endüstri-sonrası kentlerde çok çekici ve göz kamaştırıcı kamusal alanlar inşa edilmektedir. Bu gelişmeler, uzun bir dönem ihmal edilmiş olan kamusal mekanların iyileştirilmesi ve kentlerdeki rollerini sağlıklı yerine getirebilmeleri açısından olumlu olmakla beraber, kamusal alanların rollerinin değişmesine neden olmuştur. Bu makale, son 25-30 yılın kamusal mekan yazınını inceleyerek, endüstri-sonrası kentlerin kamusal mekanlarının değişen rollerini irdelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Makalede bu amaca yönelik olarak, kentlerde kamusal mekanların rolleri tanımlanmakta; 1980’lerin başından itibaren kamusal alanlara artan ilginin nedenleri incelenmekte; endüstri-sonrası kente özel kamusal mekan tipleri ve özellikleri tanımlanmakta; bütün bunlara bağlı olarak, endüstri-sonrası kentinin kamusal mekanlarının değişen rollerine yönelik çıkarımlar yapılmaktadır.
