Counseling Psychology and Cultural Factors

Öz:
There have been serious doubts about mainstream psychological concepts and theoretical models in terms of their applicability to non-western cultures. It has been suggested that mainstream psychology is a by-product of western tradition and fashioned by particular cultural and historical conditions. In that sense, defining presenting problems, structuring the counseling process and therapeutic alliances are directly affected by cultural factors. Thus, the goal of this study is to discuss the relations between culture and theoretical bases and applications of the counseling psychology regarding definitions of psychological health, reflecting psychological symptoms, coping, defining presenting problems, and therapeutic alliances.
