Lise Öğrencilerinin Tarih Derslerinde Yerel Tarih Konularının Öğretilmesiyle İlgili Görüşleri
Öz: Bu araştırma lise tarih programına yerel tarih konularının nasıl dahil edilebileceğini ve tarih eğitiminde yerel tarih çalışmalarının yerinin nasıl artırılabileceğini araştırmaktadır. Çalışma boyunca nitel ve nicel veriler kullanılmıştır. Ankara ve Bitlis/Ahlat'taki dört lisede 320 lise son sınıf öğrencisiyle anket çalışması yapılmış, ayrıca anketlerin uygulandığı sınıflardan seçilen 65 öğrenciyle 13 adet grup mülakatı yapılmıştır. Anket ve mülakat analizleri lise öğrencilerinin büyük çoğunluğun yerel tarih konularının tarih derslerine dahil edilmesini savunduğunu göstermiştir. Öğrencilerin çoğunluğu tarih konuları kendi bölgeleriyle bağlantılı olduğunda konulan daha çabuk kavradıklarını ve tarih derslerini daha zevkli bulduklarını belirtmişlerdir. Bu araştırma okullarda yerel tarihle ilgili iki tür çalışmanın zaman zaman kullanıldığını göstermiştir: müze ve tarihi yerlere geziler ve tarih dönem ödevleri. Araştırmadan elde edilen verilere dayalı olarak tarih derslerinde yerel tarihin nasıl daha etkin kullanılabileceğine yönelik öneriler sunulmuştur. Yerel tarihin beklenen faydayı verebilmesi için eğitim sisteminde başka değişiklikler yapılması gerektiği de vurgulanmış ve konunun eğitimcileri ilgilendiren diğer yönleri de tartışılmıştır.

Secondary Students’ Views on Teaching Local History Topics in History Lessons
Öz: This research aims to explore ‘how local history studies can be included in the Turkish secondary history National Curriculum’ and ‘how can the place of local studies in history education in Turkey be improved’. During the research qualitative and quantitative data was gathered. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 320 final year (year 11) students from four secondary schools in the two different cities, Ankara and Bitlis/Ahlat. After the questionnaire application, 13 follow up group interviews were conducted with 65 students from all classes given the questionnaire. Interview and questionnaire analysis shows that most of the students advocate the inclusion of local history into the history curriculum. Most students think that when history topics are connected with their locality they learn history more easily and history lessons would be more enjoyable. The research shows that two kinds of activities related to local history are used in Turkish schools rarely: museum and site visits and history assignments. On the basis of the research evidence, the article outlines possible strategies for the inclusion of local history within the Turkish history curriculum. It is argued that this inclusion must be accompanied by pedagogical change if the teaching of local history is to improve the effectiveness and value of history education in Turkey. The implications of this for teachers are explored.
