It is proved that safe staffing is one of the important factors which effects the quality of nursing care and the health services provided. Safe staffing described as an appropriate number of staff, with a suitable mix of skill levels, is available at all times to ensure that patient care needs are met and that safe working conditions are maintained. In hospitals safe staffing is associated with lower inpatient mortality, shorter hospitals stays, and higher patient and nurse satisfaction. The literature demonstrates that there is a relationship between nurse staffing levels and quality of patient care. Researches also show a reduction in adverse events and health care costs when nurse staffing levels are adequate for the level of patient care required. In this paper the importance and advantages of safe staffing will be discussed.
