Ebeveyn Sosyotelizminin Ergenlerdeki Olumsuz Yansımaları: Sistematik Bir Derleme

Negative Reflections of Parental Phubbing in Adolescents: A Systematic Review

Öz:
As a result of the multifunctional nature and prevalence of smartphones, it is possible to encounter phubbing behaviors in any area of life. This new word, which is formed by combining the English words “phone” and “snubbing”, is explained as individuals’ excessive interest in mobile phones in social environments which naturally distracts their attention from other people. Parental phubbing involves inhibiting the relationship with their children because of parents being more concerned with their phones in their communication with their children. Parental phubbing may affect the parent-child communication and may cause the adolescent to face some risks. Therefore, the purpose of this systematic review is to systematically examine the implications of parental phubbing in the context of adolescence in the literature. For this purpose, the answer to the question “What are the consequences of parental phubbing in the context of adolescence?” has been sought in this study. As a result of the searches made in the databases, the results of thirteen studies that were examined in depth were synthesized. Results suggest that parental phubbing may predict adolescents’ depression, life satisfaction, problematic smartphone use or cell phone addiction, cyberbullying behaviors or exposure to cyberbullying, academic burnout and loneliness either directly or through mediator variables. The findings were handled with a holistic approach and suggestions were presented to researchers and practitioners working in the field.
