SUMMARY Objective: The research isperformed in order to determine the spiritualcare requirements of the mothers of thehospitalized children in intensive care units.Material and Method: In the scope of thestudy, the Depth interview method whichis one of the quantitative data collectionmethods was used. During the study,20 mothers were interviewed whosechildren entered the intensive care unit ofEge University Medical Faculty Researchand Practice Hospital, Department ofPediatrics. Following the interviews, thedetailed documentation of the data is doneby the researchers and these raw datawere classified according to the subjectspreviously determined and verifi ed at the endof the study. The study was approved by theethics commite (20.04.2005/28). In addition,mothers Informed Consent Form weretaken.Results: The mothers whose childrenare in intensive care units said that thespiritual care requirements were not exactlysatisfied by their responsible nurses anddoctors. Mothers expect interest, goodcare, understanding, information aboutthe situation of the child, geniality fromnurses in order good treatment, a correctdiagnose, information about the situationof their children and understanding fromdoctors in order for their spiritual carerequirements needs to be met. Mothersreported that spiritual support to theirchildren in accordance with their religiousbeliefs in order to be resorting to practices (to pray, to have amulet written, to consultto a hodja, to recite Koran, to make drinkteas of medicinal plants), want to be neartheir children, to touch, to talk, to kiss them,to satisfy their needs in the intensive careunit.Conclusion: In accordance with the resultsobtained, it is recommended that spiritualrequirements are accepted as patient needs,the spiritual needs of families are consideredin the scope of the treatment and careapplications performed by physicians andnurses and the necessary environmentalconditions are previously prepared in order tospiritually support the children and their family.
