The Effect of Fatigue and Sleep Quality on Quality of Life in Type 2 Diabetic Patients

Öz:

In this study; it was aimed to determine the fatigue and sleep quality on the quality of life in patients with Type 2 diabetes. MMaatteerriiaall aanndd MMeetthhooddss:: This descriptive type study was carried out diabetes education and follow-up clinic of a state hospital between Janu- ary and June, 2010. The sample of study was composed of 120 patients with Type 2 diabetes. Data were collected by using a questionnaire form to determine the sociodemographic and illness- related characteristics, Visual Analogue Scale for Fatigue, The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Ferrans and Powers Quality of Life Scale Diabetes Version. Chi-Square, Kolmogorov- Smirnov, One Way Anova, Kruskall Wallis, Mann-Whitney U tests and, Pearson Correlation Co- efficient were used to analyze the data. RReessuullttss:: The patients with diabetes were 65.8% female and, the mean age of was 53.37±7.93 years. The patient’s mean fatigue score was 5.56±1.16 and, 82.5% of the participants were classified as having poor quality sleep. In this study, women’s fa- tigue score were higher than men, sleep and quality of life was lower found. Sleep quality and quality of life was significantly affected by increases of body mass index (p<0.05). The result of study showed that some independent variables were associated with increased fatigue, reduced sleep quality in patients with Type 2 diabetes and, in those the dimensions quality of life scores were significantly found lower. CCoonncclluussiioonn:: It was found that patients with Type 2 diabetes with sleep quality and fatigue level has significant relationship between quality of life
