Öz:

Neolitik kavramının tanımı ile bu dönemdeki kültürel ve teknolojik dönüşümlere ilişkin sorular; geçmişe dair bakış açılarının, arkeoloji kuramlarının ve araştırma yöntemlerinin zaman içindeki değişimine bağlı olarak bir hayli değişmiş, kuşkusuz değişmeye de devam etmektedir. Halet Çambel ve Robert J. Braidwood yönetiminde 1964 yılında Çayönü Tepesi’nde başlayan araştırmalar yalnızca ortaya konulan sonuçlarıyla değil, sorduğu sorular, yaklaşım ve yöntem bakımından da özel bir yere sahiptir. Bu yazıda Neolitik yaşam biçiminin ortaya çıkış sürecinde etkin bir rol oynayan Güneydoğu Anadolu Bölgesi, bir başka deyişle Doğu Toroslar'ın güneye bakan etekleri, Neolitik araştırmalarının tarihçesi bağlamında ele alınmakta, ayrıca Yukarı Dicle Havzası’ndan gelen yeni bulgulara da yer verilmektedir. Bölgedeki çalışmaları geniş bir çerçeve içinde ele alabilmek ve Türkçe yazınına katkıda bulunabilmek için arkeolojideki genel yaklaşımlar ve Neolitik kavramının anlamsal değişim sürecine de değinilmeye çalışılmıştır.

Öz:

The definition of the Neolithic and the questions about cultural and technological transformations inthis period has changed considerably due to significant shifts in perspectives, archeological theoriesand methods over time. Undoubtedly, it continues to change. Under the direction of Halet Çambeland Robert J. Braidwood, the excavations that started at Çayönü Tepesi in 1964 played a funda mental role not only with their results, but also in terms of the research questions, approaches andmethods. In this paper, Southeastern Anatolia, the southern slopes of the Eastern Taurus Mountains,which plays a crucial role in the emergence of the Neolithic way of life, is discussed in the contextof the history of Neolithic research, with the new results from the Upper Tigris Basin. Generalapproaches in archeology and the semantic changes of the concept of Neolithic are discussed inorder to address research in the area within a wider framework and to contribute to the scholarshipin Turkish on the subject.
