An investigation of the psychometric properties of the Social Appearance Anxiety Scale in an adolescent sample

Öz:

Bu çalışmanın amacı Sosyal Görünüş Kaygısı Ölçeği’nin psikometrik özelliklerini ergenlerden oluşan bir örneklemde incelemektir. SGKÖ-E’ nin geçerlik ve güvenirliği 12-15 yaşları arasında 453 ergen (235 kız ve 218 erkek) üzerinde incelenmiştir. Araştırmada SGKÖ-E’nin faktör yapısını belirlemek amacıyla açımlayıcı ve doğrulayıcı faktör analizi yapılmıştır. Faktör analizi sonuçları ölçeğin tek faktörlü olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Ölçüt bağıntılı geçerliğini incelemek için ise Ergenler İçin Sosyal Kaygı Ölçeği (ESKÖ) ile korelasyonuna bakılmıştır. SGKÖ-E ile ESKÖ ve alt boyutları arasında yüksek düzeyde pozitif ilişkiler bulunmuştur. SGKÖ-E’ nin Cronbach alfa iç tutarlık katsayısı .91 ve test tekrar test güvenirlik katsayısı .80 olarak bulunmuştur. Elde edilen bu bulgular SGKÖ-E’ nin ergenlerde kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğunu göstermiştir.

Öz:

The aim of the present study evaluate psychometric properties of the Social Appearance Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAAS-A) in Turkish sample. The psychometric properties of SAAS-A were examined ona sample of 453 (235 girls, 218 boys) adolescents between 12-15 years of age. In order to determine the construct validity of SAAS-A, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was conducted. The factor analysis resulted in factors. Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAS-A) was used for the criterion validity. It was found positive and high correlations between SAAS-A and SAS-A. The Cronbach’s alpha for the SAAS-A was .91 and the computed test re-test reliability coefficient was .80. These findings demonstrate that the validity and the reliability of SAAS-A were satisfactory for the Turkish elementary school sample.
