The Validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the metacognitive awareness of reading strategies inventory

Öz:
Bu araştırmanın amacı Mokhtari ve Reichard (2002) tarafından geliştirilen Okuma Stratejileri Üstbilişsel Farkındalık Envanteri (MARSI) Türkçe formunun geçerlik ve güvenirliğini incelemektir. Eş değer form işlemleri için, Türkçe ve İngilizce formlar iki hafta arayla Sakarya İlinde bulunan özel bir ilköğretim okulunun altıncı sınıfında öğrenim gören 29 öğrenci tarafından doldurulmuştur. İkinci aşamada geçerlik-güvenirlik çalışmaları için Sakarya ili Merkez ilçelerinden birinde yer alan 2 ilköğretim okulunun 5. Sınıfında öğrenim görmekte olan 250 öğrenciye ölçek uygulanarak, açımlayıcı ve doğrulayıcı faktör analizi ile yapı geçerliğine, Cronbach alfa ile iç tutarlılık katsayısı ile güvenirlik analizleri yapılmıştır. Ölçeğin Türkçe ve İngilizce formlarından elde edilen puanlar arasındaki korelasyon 0.96 olarak bulunmuştur..Ölçeğe ait faktörlerin .76 ve .85 arası güvenirlik değerine sahip olduğu bulunmuştur. Bu bulgulara dayanarak MARSI’nin eğitim alanında kullanılabilecek, geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğu söylenebilir.

Öz:
The aim of this research was to adapt an inventory which was developed by Mokhtari and Reichard, (2002) called “Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategies Inventory”. For equal forms process, both English and Turkish forms of the inventory were administered to 29 students studying at sixth-grade in a private elementary school, in Sakarya. Then, for reliability and validity, the inventory was administered to a total of 250 students studying at fifth grade in two different elementary schools located in Sakarya. In addition, EFA (exploratory) and CFA (confirmatory) analyses were used to evaluate the reliability and validity of the inventory on students’ scores obtained from the inventory. The correlation coefficient between the Turkish and English forms scores was .96. All factors’ reliability coefficients in the inventory ranged between .76 and .85. Considering these findings, MARSI has enough reliability and validity to be used in educational research.
